When acclaimed director, Alfonso Cuaron, (Y tu Mama Tambien and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), embarked on his mission to bring The Children of Men to the screen, he turned to Double Negative to help him realise his vision of a world facing its own extinction.
Double Negative worked closely with the director to achieve his vision of the pre-apocalyptic, dystopian society of James’ intriguing novel and brought a dynamic team together led by Visual Effects Supervisor, Frazer Churchill (nominated for a VES award and a BAFTA award for his work on the film) to work with the director.
The major sequences Double Negative worked on included a trio of shots featuring sets of complicated transitions, CG enhancement of environments and buildings, a CG stunt driver and motorcycle, matte paintings, greenscreens, and various CG effects.
In addition to these major transition shots and CG builds, Double Negative also provided various other shots which added to the style of the movie. This included futurising the streets of London and rural locations with LED screens, cg solar panels, smoking chimneys and sky replacements.
