DNEG’s Work

Double Negative’s team worked on the Monaco Grand Prix sequence, which involved recreating race day in Monaco, including building augmentation, crowds and historic Grand Prix cars. The team also produced Whiplash’s electric whips, along with the associated damage and destruction.

However, the biggest challenge the DNEG team faced was in the realisation of the ‘suitcase’ armour that Stark implements to quickly suit up for the fight with Whiplash and the ensuing Iron Man vs. Whiplash Battle sequence.

The dialogue crackles, the special effects pop and the onscreen action never flags, climaxing with an astonishing multi-car pileup at the Monaco Grand Prix, where Iron Man meets his nemesis, aka Whiplash, for the first time. So far, so excellent.Time Out

Film Background

Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf) Iron Man 2 sees Robert Downey, Jr. return as inventor, Tony Stark, aka the armoured superhero, Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armour because he fears the information will fall into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts and James “Rhodey” Rhodes at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.
