Awards season is heating up, and we’re thrilled to share the latest news about our nominated projects!

VES nominations

We’re thrilled to announce that our work on ‘Dune’, ‘The Matrix Resurrections’, ‘No Time to Die’, ‘Last Night in Soho’, ‘Foundation’ and ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ has been recognised with 12 VES Award nominations across 10 categories!

On-Line viewing & voting for VES Members begins on January 24th, 2022, and the winners will be announced at the 20th Annual VES Awards presentation on March 8th, 2022.


BAFTA longlist

Fifteen long-listed films will be progressing to Round Two of the Special Visual Effects category for the 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), and we’re excited to announce that DNEG led the visual effects work on six of them!

Other long-listed titles are:

    • Don’t Look Up
    • Eternals
    • Free Guy
    • The French Dispatch
    • The King’s Man
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    • The Suicide Squad

We are also over the moon to see Ron’s Gone Wrong — DNEG Animation’s animated feature debut — on the longlist for Best Animated Film! Huge congratulations to everyone involved!

The shortlist of the final five nominated shows will be announced on February 3rd, after which the general voting membership will select the winner. This will be announced on March 13, 2022.

We couldn’t be prouder of our teams for their amazing work! Congratulations to all the DNEG crews that contributed to these projects and to all the other nominees.


Academy Awards Shortlist

We’re incredibly proud to share that four films for which DNEG was lead VFX partner have been announced as eligible for consideration for the ‘Best Visual Effects’ Oscar at the 2022 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards. The selected titles were determined by the Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee and remain in the running for the 94th Academy Awards.

And the shortlist is:

    • The Matrix Resurrections — DNEG was the lead VFX partner and DNEG’s Dan Glass was the overall Production VFX Supervisor
    • No Time To Die — DNEG was the lead VFX partner and DNEG’s Charlie Noble was the overall Production VFX Supervisor
    • Dune — DNEG was the lead VFX partner
    • Ghostbusters: Afterlife — DNEG was the lead VFX partner

Other nominations:

    • Black Widow
    • Eternals
    • Free Guy
    • Godzilla vs. Kong
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Bake-Off

All members of the Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view excerpts from each of the shortlisted films in January 2022.

Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate five films for final Oscars consideration.

The five finalists will be announced on February 8th.

94th Academy Awards

The winners of the 94th Academy Awards will then be announced at the

Oscars ceremony, scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 27th.


Critics Choice Award nominations

We’re pleased to share that three titles for which DNEG was lead VFX partner have been included on this year’s Critics Choice Association’s ‘Best Visual Effects’ film nominee list for the 27th annual Critics Choice Awards.

The Critics Choice Awards are bestowed annually to honour the finest in cinematic and television achievement. Historically, they are the most accurate predictor of Academy Award nominations. We couldn’t be more humbled to see DNEG VFX talent represented in three out of five of this year’s nominations. Congratulations to all our teams behind the nominated titles!

While the ceremony has been postponed due to COVID concerns, we look forward to celebrating everyone’s incredible accomplishments when the new date is announced!
