‘Dune: Part Two’ & ‘Oppenheimer’ Predicted As Frontrunners for 2024 ‘Best Visual Effects’ Oscar

FROM INDIEWIRE'S ROUND-UP OF 2024 'BEST VISUAL EFFECTS' OSCAR CONTENDERS

Celebrating Dune: Part Two and Oppenheimer’s 2024 ‘Best Visual Effects’ Oscar frontrunner predictions!

We’re thrilled to see two DNEG projects identified as frontrunners in IndieWire’s predictions for this year’s ‘Best Visual Effects’ Award: Dune: Part Two and Oppenheimer!

Following our win in 2022 for Dune: Part One, we were excited to work again as lead VFX partner with acclaimed Director Denis Villeneuve on the highly-anticipated sequel. Dune: Part Two will continue to tell the mythic journey of Paul Atreides, as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Expected to hit theatres this November 3rd, DNEG’s creative leadership team helming our work on the film include VFX Supervisors Rhys Salcombe and Stephen James. We’re thrilled to see Dune: Part Two singled out as the early favourite in this year’s race!

IndieWire predicts Director Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer as the primary challenger for Dune: Part Two. The thrilling biopic follows the work of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his team of scientists during the Manhattan Project as they develop the atomic bomb.

As sole VFX partner on the film, our team delivered over 100 shots across some of the film’s most important sequences including the explosive Trinity test and the subatomic visions of quantum physics inside Oppenheimer’s mind. Oscar-winning Production VFX Supervisor Andrew Jackson led our team’s work on the film, collaborating closely from script to set with Christopher Nolan to bring his creative vision to life.

Enjoy this closer look at our work below, and catch Oppenheimer in theatres near you!

Massive congratulations to our Film VFX teams for their outstanding work on these two projects! We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed come awards season.
