DNEG’s work nominated for an Emmy!

TEAM SCOOPS EMMY NOD FOR STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

DNEG team receives Emmy nomination for Star Trek: Discovery — Season 3!

Led by VFX Supervisor Toni Pykäläniemi, our episodic team’s work on Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 is featured on the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards nomination list!

Alongside a collection of talented nominees, they’ve been nominated for an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode’.

Tasked with delivering a bigger and better return to this beloved interplanetary universe, our teams worked tirelessly to craft the show’s many diverse environments. Throughout seven episodes, they employed all aspects of the visual effects process to deliver shots offering everything from meteoric FX to earthy full-CG hero assets to holographic MGFX.

In the Emmy-nominated Episode 11 ‘Su’kal’, the team helped create a full CG nebula environment through Layout, Environment, Lighting and Comp work. Working with live action plates, they also used FX to construct ‘programmable matter’ on the ship consoles, integrating this with both holograms and plate footage.

Congratulations to our amazing episodic VFX team and to all our fellow nominees!

Join us on Sunday, September 12th to watch the ceremony. In the meantime, read more about our work on ‘Star Trek: Discovery — Season 3’ here.
