Introducing DNEG Virtual Production

An end-to-end, full-service Virtual Production offering for filmmakers and content creators

DNEG and Dimension Studio are pleased to announce the official launch of DNEG Virtual Production, an industry-leading, end-to-end virtual production service for filmmakers and content creators globally.

This new division of DNEG is led by Executive Producer Steve Griffith and Managing Director Steve Jelley.

Since announcing our virtual production partnership back in February 2021, DNEG and Dimension Studio have been collaborating closely to develop and deliver a full range of content creation, content management and on-set virtual production services that support clients’ needs across the lifetime of their shows.

The team has already delivered virtual production services for a number of projects, including Bullet Train (Sony Pictures), Pinocchio (Disney), No Way Up (Altitude Film Entertainment), Devotion (Sony Pictures), Death on the Nile (Twentieth Century Fox) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (Sony Pictures). The DNEG Virtual Production team is currently in production on Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) and a number of unannounced projects.

By bringing our end-to-end virtual production services together under the DNEG Virtual Production banner, our VP division is able to partner with clients across the entire creative journey of the project, providing:

Content creation – bespoke real-time content creation and associated services, including but not limited to concept art, previs, techvis, stuntvis, final asset creation (2D, 2.5D, 3D), in-camera VFX, and interactive lighting.

Content management – our real-time experts provide technical and creative expertise throughout virtual production projects. Providing specialist services including volume operation, source control, quality assurance, optimisation, techvis, and development. Enabling virtual production workflows and multi-vendor collaboration.

On-set expertise – supervision, operational and technical on-set services, working hand-in-hand with clients to define the best shoot methodologies for each project. On-set services include tracking, motion capture, VR scouting, Vcam, Simulcam, virtual cinematography and a range of LED stage solutions.

Integration – seamless integration of real-time services with DNEG’s Academy Award-winning VFX services, allowing continuity of production, security, confidentiality, budgeting flexibility, and ease of contracting with a single partner.

Talking about the launch of DNEG Virtual Production, Executive Producer Steve Griffith said:
“I’m incredibly excited to officially launch the DNEG Virtual Production division. For the past year-and-a-half we have been delivering virtual production services for a number of tentpole projects, talking to our clients about what they want and need from their virtual production partner. DNEG Virtual Production has been set-up to deliver exactly what they are asking for, with a full range of virtual production services and technologies that can be accessed according to the needs of the project.”

DNEG Virtual Production Managing Director Steve Jelley added:
“Our clients have been calling out for an end-to-end virtual production service, handled by one team, under one roof, with all the efficiencies and flexibility that this brings. The formation of DNEG Virtual Production allows us to deliver the highest levels of service and expertise to our filmmaking and content creation partners across the whole lifecycle of the project, from script breakdown to final delivery, with an entirely flexible methodology designed to support the requirements of each show.”
