Last week, DNEG Animation travelled to Annecy, France to take part in the world’s largest animation festival!
Thousands of animation professionals and enthusiasts alike gathered for Annecy Festival 2024, and DNEG Animation was right there alongside them – with Garfield in tow, of course!
The team served up an extra cheesy batch of panels and presentations at this year’s festival, showcasing the latest innovations and upcoming projects from DNEG Animation.
Enjoy this look at some of the highlights!
The festival kicked off with our team setting up their brie-lliant The Garfield Movie themed booth, and attending the Women In Animation World Summit!
The next day, Bridget Dash (Senior Talent Acquisition Partner) shared an in-depth look at DNEG Animation’s work, as well as how to prepare for a career in animation with tips on CVs, reels and more! Moderated by Dara McGarry (Director of Outreach), the session, Right Here, Right Meow: Careers at DNEG Animation, also shared an exclusive look at our upcoming projects – including The Cat in the Hat and That Christmas!
The talk was followed by an engaging Soiree at La Boutik, where our team got the chance to interact with fellow animation enthusiasts. Here are some scenes from the evening!
On Wednesday, we were thrilled to welcome Producers and Directors from our partnership studios Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation for a panel discussion at our booth! Moderated by our very own Ted Ty (Global Head of Character Animation), they offered exciting insight into creating an animated feature, followed by a meet and greet.
Then, Hailey White (Head of Layout) hosted a session walking through what Layout is and how cinematography is used in animation! Following this, the team was delighted to attend and introduce the French premiere of The Garfield Movie!
Thursday kicked off with an exciting session on The Garfield Movie! DNEG Animation’s Shelley Smith (Producer), Jason Boose (Animation Director) and Freddy Chaleur (VFX Supervisor) took the stage to share the creative process behind bringing the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat to life on screen.
Throughout the festival, the team was also thrilled to meet several animation professionals at our booth, where they discussed tips and tricks for a successful career, hosted portfolio reviews, and shared in their love of all things animation.
Complete with some exciting mixers, fresh air, sunshine, and the wonderful sights of Annecy, the team is already counting down the days until next year!
Thank you Annecy, à l’année prochaine!
