This month, our team travelled to France to attend Annecy Festival 2023!
This year’s festival was a great success, bringing together thousands of animation professionals and enthusiasts alike to celebrate this incredible industry and artform at the world’s largest animation event.
We were thrilled to be a part of the excitement, hosting a series of engaging presentations and panels to showcase the latest innovations and upcoming projects from DNEG Animation.

Kicking off the week, our team was thrilled to attend the world premiere of Nimona – which received a 17 minute standing ovation from the audience! (We can’t wait to share it with the rest of you this Friday on Netflix!)
The next day, DNEG Animation’s Claudia Roy (Talent Acquisition Lead) and Bridget Dash (Senior Talent Acquisition Partner) took to the stage for their talk ‘Bonjour, Is It Me You’re Looking For?’. Moderated by our very own Dara McGarry (Director of Talent Outreach), they shared industry insights and best practices to prepare for a career in animation with a packed audience! Later at our DNEG Animation booth, they continued to share insights and conduct portfolio reviews alongside the rest of our team.
Speaking of our booth, our eye-catching Entergalactic-inspired booth was bustling with additional talks and activities all week. Including, right on theme, a behind the scenes look into the making of the gorgeous Entergalactic with DNEG Animation’s VFX Supervisor Archie Donato!
We also shared some amazing merch with our visitors. Could Nimona origami be any more fitting to build excitement for the release of our favourite shape-shifter’s animated feature?
On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Nimona’s directors, Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, to our booth. They shared a few words on the making of this amazing film alongside our team and signed autographs for our visitors! Then, on Friday, our Global Head of Character Animation, Ted Ty, hosted a talk on what it took to craft the nuanced animation style of Nimona.
Topped off with some incredible mixers, fresh air, sunshine, and the beautiful sights of Annecy, the team is already counting down the days until next year!
