No two-hour film could ever capture all the riches of McEwan's masterly novel. But Wright and Hampton's Atonement comes tantalizingly close, while adding sensual delights all its own.Newsweek

An adaptation at least as good as the novel - complex, delicate and devastating. Gorgeous cinematography, a lilting score and near-faultless performances, under Wright’s assured direction, make this the first contender for next year’s Best Picture Oscar.Empire

Film Background

The filmmakers of “Pride and Prejudice” reunite for Atonement, based on the award-winning, best-selling Ian McEwan novel. Directed by Joe Wright the story centres around fledgling writer Briony Tallis who, at 13 years old, irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister’s lover of a crime he did not commit.

Led by Visual Effects Supervisor, John Moffatt, Visual Effects Producer, Stuart McAra and VFX co-Producer, Kristopher Wright, Double Negative managed over 200 challenging visual effects shots for the film. These included crowd replication, underwater environment creation, explosions, planes, smoke, and beautification of buildings. One of the most challenging of these was a live-action shot on the beach at Dunkirk lasting 5 minutes and 27 seconds.
