DNEG was proud to work as the main VFX partner for ‘Extrapolations’, a critical anthology series about the chaotic and devastating effects of climate change. Our VFX and MGFX teams delivered 880 shots and 162 assets across seven of the show’s eight episodes, covering a total of 98 minutes of VFX in the final edits.
Spanning the full spectrum of global warming consequences, our team provided a wide range of impressive and ambitious, although also sometimes invisible, visual effects to help create a vision of the world we might be heading towards. This included complex environment, set extension and crowd work; realistic creature development and animation; and multiple FX, comp and lighting requirements to portray how different layers of the planet, including mankind, could be affected by the climate crisis.
Our MGFX team contributed graphics to over 50% of our VFX shots for the show, including holograms, video screens, and futuristic communication tools. Motion graphics play a leading role in the narrative of the series – transporting the audience into a future with interfaces and visual technologies that have never been seen before.
Ultimately, “Extrapolations” is a significant warning that this could be the future. Max Covill, RogerEbert.com
