Three years on from the release of Gareth Edward’s ‘Godzilla’ comes the next entry in the Legendary / Warner Bros. monster franchise – ‘Kong: Skull Island’ from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts

Kong: Skull Island is an action spectacular that offers large-scale monster mayhem, moments of cinematic poetry and memorable character work.Forbes

Stereo

The stereo team delivered the full stereo conversion of ‘Kong: Skull Island’. And one of the most effective and challenging sequences was the battle between Kong and the Skullcrawlers. In addition to the creatures the team had to deal with tons of debris and gallons of water. The interaction of the creatures with the water was tricky too.

Another challenge that the team faced was to make the CG creatures look larger than life in the environments of Skull Island, using the stereo effects at their disposal to emphasize the difference in scale between the huge creatures and the human characters. Scale differences, intense action, heavy environments, dynamic camera movement – all of these elements made the stereo conversion of ‘Kong: Skull Island’ challenging. The team used projection techniques to ensure that the z-depths were built correctly, allowing them to reduce iterations with the client.
