Unleashing the Beasts: Behind the Scenes of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Join DNEG VFX Supervisors, Paul Franklin and Aleks Pejic, as they delve into DNEG’s intricate environment and creature work in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. They will walk the audience through the meticulous process behind bringing iconic titans like Godzilla and Kong to life on the big screen, as well as explore the creation of the menacing spider-creature, Charybdis, in the epic opening Rome battle sequence. Witness the uncovering of the mystical “Veil” that separates the Iwi Realm from the mysterious depths of Hollow Earth. Gain insight into the project’s challenges, innovations, and creative techniques that went into these fantastical elements to deliver a truly immersive cinematic experience.

 

Real-time dreams: Can game engine unlock story worlds?

As the lines have blurred between games and stories, animation and VFX, short form and features, content creation presents new creative and technological challenges. While showing a sneak peek of the upcoming short film, Dream of the Black Whales, Producer, Chris deFaria, along with co-director and VFX Supervisor, Paul Franklin and CEO of Dimension Studios and Managing Director, DNEG Virtual Production, Steve Jelley, will discuss how they’re tackling these industry changes by activating a novel game-engine pipeline. Dream of the Black Whales is the second short film from The Hour Blue StoryWorld, a multi-platform science fiction narrative that made its debut at the 2023 Annecy Animation Film Festival.
