Talks

During the two-day Spark FX Conference we will have two talks that spotlight the intricate work that went towards two of 2018’s  biggest blockbusters: First Man and Venom.

We were the lead VFX partner for First Man and we’re very proud that our work has been nominated for ‘Best Visual Effects’ at the 91st Annual Academy Awards, and has received BAFTA and VES nominations.

Our work on  Venom, meanwhile, gave us the opportunity to bring the bad-ass creature to life and create all his different forms. If you’re interested in joining our amazing Creature team check out our careers page.

DNEG’s work on First Man was centered around trying to achieve some of the most realistic and immersive in-camera VFX shots ever seen.

Join us as VFX Producer Michelle Eisenreich and CG Supervisor Frederik Lillelund show how the First Man team were able to achieve this by using one of the biggest LED screens ever built on a movie set, while also taking advantage of the latest in miniature work, footage restoration and digital effects.

Transforming Venom.

Daniel Paulsson
Presented by DNEG
with Daniel Paulsson & Sheena Duggal
Sunday, Feb 10th, 10:45am

Creating any kind of digital character is difficult, but bringing the shapeshifting alien symbiote to life, and transforming Tom Hardy into Venom presented some unusual creative and technical challenges.

Join us to hear how Sony VFX Supervisor Sheena Duggal and DNEG VFX Supervisor Daniel Paulsson took on these challenges to successfully bring the iconic Marvel anti-hero to life on the big screen.

Alita: Battle Angel

Fred Chapman, our Head of Creature, will moderate the 12:30PM talk on Robert Rodriguez’s latest movie Alita: Battle Angel. This was one of the films DNEG artists in Vancouver helped bring to life.
