DNEG team helps bring home the Emmy for Star Trek: Discovery — Season 3!

Congratulations to our super-talented Episodic VFX team, led by VFX Supervisor Toni Pykäläniemi, who were honoured last night as part of the crew that won the Emmy for ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode’!

The Emmy was awarded for the team’s work on Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, and we’d like to send a huge congratulations to all of our fellow winners, and to our clients and the whole Star Trek: Discovery team.

DNEG’s work on the series helped deliver an even bigger and better return to Star Trek’s beloved interplanetary universe. Across seven episodes our teams delivered shots offering everything from meteoric FX to earthy full-CG hero assets to holographic MGFX.

In the Emmy-winning Episode 11 ‘Su’kal’, our team helped create a full CG nebula environment through Layout, Environment, Lighting and Comp work. Working with live action plates, we also used FX to construct ‘programmable matter’ on the ship consoles, integrating this with both holograms and plate footage.

Congratulations once again to our amazing Episodic VFX team and to all our fellow winners!
